..but there was something different about this particular summer night performance in 2015.

They called up a special guest.

The guest pulled out his own trumpet and began to improvise a solo, bringing the crowd to its feet as many pulled out their phones to record the performance..."

Cameron Shave is a 16-year-old jazz trumpeter, arranger, writer, and bandleader based around Boston, MA and Providence, RIShave is currently a member/winning competitor of the International Trumpet Guild. Shave has also had the honor of being accepted into the Jazz at Lincoln Center "Summer Jazz Academy" directed by Wynton Marsalis. Cameron Shave has taken a selection of preparatory classes at the New England Conservatory in Boston, including Jazz Ear Training, Jazz Styles, Jazz Theory III and the New England Conservatory Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Cameron has worked with the Celebrity Series of Boston in performances such as Jazz Along the Charles: a walkable concert on the DCR Boston Esplanade, Concert For One, and opening for jazz headliners and playing community concerts.

Cameron has had the honor to study with trumpet players Tom Kirinsky, John Allmark, Billy Buss, Phil Grenadier, Aaron Janik, and Wayne Bergeron.


Shave too has studied arranging for big band, arranging for jazz combo, arranging for horns and arranging for strings with arrangers John Allmark, Greg Hopkins, and Chris Walden.

Shave is one of the first five-hundred members of HornFX, a community of trumpet players who combine the natural sound of horns with guitar pedals and analog synth pedals. Other members of this group include Randy Brecker, Rashawn Ross, Eric "Benny" Bloom, Paul the Trombonist and more...

Cameron also directs the CSJO: (the Cameron Shave Jazz Orchestra) a gigging high-school big band made up with some of the top young players in New England, an All-Star Mini Big Band: Cameron Shave's very own Septet and writing project, the modern jam band FUNKACADEMY, and even serves as a substitute choir director and worship accompanist at Bridgwater's Central Square Congregational Church.


Cameron also plays in local area bands, Boston-based bands and Providence-based bands such as the Beantown Swing Orchestra, the South Coast Jazz Orchestra, the Raynwater Players Theater Pit Orchestra, the New England Conservatory Youth Jazz Orchestra, the Nightlife Jazz Orchestra, the Berklee Five-Week All-Star Big Band, the Berklee Five-Week BPC Funk/Fusion Ensemble, the Berklee Five-Week BPC Salsa Band, the Berklee Five-Week BPC Tower of Power Ensemble, the Tri-County Symphonic Band, Slightly Tooned, the Remax All-Star Bristol Fourth of July Marching Band and many more...


Cameron Shave was one of ten Berklee Five-Week Program participants out of over four-hundred auditioning participants to receive a full-tuition scholarship for the following year's program.
