Bio | Cameron Shave - Trumpet, Leader, Arranger

As a composer/arranger/orchestrator, Cam honed his skills over the years through studies with John Fedchock, Christopher Zuar, John Allmark, and Greg Hopkins, as well as through a past mentorship with Grammy Award-winning arranger Steven Feifke, who recorded one of Cam’s big band arrangements with his big band. Cameron has commissioned works for Studio Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Latin Jazz Ensembles, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, and various chamber sized ensembles. One notable commmisson was by the great Jon Faddis - Cam was tasked with arranging and orchestrating the music of Louis Armstrong for a "Pops Birthday Celebration" held at the Louis Armstrong House Museum.

Cameron’s performance resume is impressive. He has taken the stage as a guest artist with the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall, wowed audiences at the NAMM Show Main Stage in Anaheim, California, and performed as a sideman in the Philadelphia Summer Jazz Series, organized by the great trumpeter Terell Stafford at Temple University. He was also featured as a guest performer at the Provincetown Jazz Festival and has performed, led, and arranged for high-profile events hosted by the Celebrity Series of Boston.

Cameron leads his own ensemble, The Cameron Shave Jazz Orchestra, which recently performed a set of original arrangements at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, closing for the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra. His band has performed at numerous venues throughout New York City and the Greater Boston area. Cam also arranges and directs his Septet (The Cameron Shave Septet), a sell-out Holiday show (The Cameron Shave Holiday Big Band Bash), and jazz combo groups/cover bands of various sizes.

As an educator, Cam strongly believes in jazz education. He teaches private trumpet, piano, and jazz improvisation lessons in the Greater Boston Area and works with local high school jazz bands as a clinician. His educational philosophy emphasizes ear training, active listening within the ensemble, and understanding the music's historical roots. He has served as a teaching assistant at the Berklee Summer Brass Program for 4 years and as an instructor at the Foxboro Jazz Improvisation Workshop.

"One aspect of my background that may be valuable to students," explains Cam," is the breadth of performance settings in which I work, such as pit orchestras, wedding bands, churches, chamber groups, studio projects, and festivals. I strive to help students develop the tools they need to perform in a variety of settings."

Cameron Shave (Boston/NYC based) is an accomplished trumpeter, arranger, bandleader, pianist, and educator with a deep passion for jazz. Cam has graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City with a Bachelor of Music and a concentration of Jazz Arts. There, he studied in the studios of Jon Faddis and Ingrid Jensen. His trumpet mentors have also included Billy Buss, John Allmark, Tom Kirinsky, and Marcus Printup.
